Maintenance Will Cause Water and Steam Outage
During the week of May 15 through May 19 there will be a water and steam outage on the KU Lawrence Campus.
The water outage will start Tuesday May 16 at noon and is expected to last approximately 24 hours until noon on Wednesday May 17. Facilities Services is upgrading the main campus water boosting system due to age and reliability. There is no ideal time for this outage and it must occur to perform critical upgrades for the campus water system.
The water outage will coincide with the annual scheduled steam outage which is conducted to perform critical preventative maintenance. The steam outage will last from Sunday May 14 through Friday May 19. During the steam outage building occupants throughout most main campus buildings can expect:
- Loss of hot water
- Possibly cooler building temperatures
- Loss of steam in autoclaves, cage washers, and any other direct steam equipment.
If you have potential events or research projects that may be affected by this water and steam outage, we encourage you to consider any potential impact the outage might have and plan accordingly.
Some buildings will only lose steam during the 24-hour water outage, while other buildings will lose both steam and water. The lists below detail the impact for specific buildings. The water outage means no water to restrooms, drinking fountains, bottle fillers, etc. The Office of Public Safety and Lawrence Fire Department are aware that the water outage will also affect fire sprinklers and hydrants. The loss of steam means building temperatures may fluctuate because cooling and heating will not be available.
We regret the inconvenience and appreciate your patience as we work to maintain our campus infrastructure. If you have any questions, please email facilities@ku.edu.
